Brass balls
Production of
brass balls
The industrial components produced by our company are mainly intended for two application sectors: tap fittings and valves. Our production focuses on the creation of brass balls of different types, depending on the destination of use: moulded brass balls, cast brass balls and hollow brass balls.
Brass balls are produced using high-strength metal alloys, which must guarantee durability over time against corrosion, pressure and extreme temperatures. Equipped with two central holes for the passage of fluids or gases, their dimensions vary according to the ball valve for which they are intended.
Thanks to their high resistance, they ensure reliable and prolonged operation of the valve itself. The seal must be flawless to avoid any leaks, the manufacturing tolerance is reduced to guarantee adaptability and correct functioning of the balls.
Brass
moulded balls
Our production of pressed brass balls begins with a hot pressing process: a piece of metallic material is heated until it becomes malleable and only at this point is it pressed inside a mould to obtain the desired shape. However, there is another fundamental step to guarantee an effective seal and correct functioning, namely the finishing of the surface, which allows sliding on the sealing gasket with minimal friction.
In addition to the manufacturing process, let’s discover the characteristics of these spheres, which, like other valve balls, even the moulded ones, have a central hole that allows the passage of fluid when the valve is open.
We use a variety of metallic materials, including brass or other special alloys: the choice depends on the area of application. In fact, the moulded balls are designed to be compatible with a wide range of fluids (including gases, liquids and vapours), and this is also the reason why resistance and durability must be high; pressure, manual stress, temperatures are all factors that influence production.
The moulded brass balls are positioned against a sealing seat when the valve is closed; it is a gasket that ensures the correct functioning of ball valves. The seal seat can be made of materials such as PTFE (polytetrafluoroethylene) or other elastomers, depending on the fluid and operating conditions.
Brass moulded balls can be designed in various sizes and manufacturing tolerances are precise to ensure perfect valve fit and operation.
Cast
brass balls
The production process of cast brass balls occurs through the fusion process of metallic materials: when complete fusion is reached, these materials are poured into special moulds, thus obtaining the typical spherical shape. The finishing takes place after this stage and it is a fundamental step to guarantee the tightness and correct functioning of the valve: the surface of the ball actually becomes smooth and free from defects.
There are several material and technical characteristics of these balls that are important to keep into consideration.
The cast brass balls have a central through hole that allows the passage of fluid when the valve is open.
The materials of the cast balls are mainly high-strength metal alloys: brass, bronze or other special alloys. The dimensions vary, depending on the ball valve in which they will be inserted, while the manufacturing tolerances are reduced to guarantee perfect adaptability and functioning of the valve.
The resistance and durability of a cast ball are high, so as to withstand considerable temperatures, pressures and possible mechanical stresses.
The seal is completely reliable, minimising any leakage of fluid through the valve.
The cast brass balls are positioned against a sealing seat when the valve is in the closed position; it is a gasket that ensures the correct functioning of ball valves. The seal seat can be made of materials such as PTFE (polytetrafluoroethylene) or other elastomers, depending on the fluid and operating conditions.
Cast brass balls are designed to be compatible with a wide range of fluids, including gases, liquids and vapours, depending on the specifics of the application.
Hollow
brass balls
The production process of hollow brass balls also occurs through the process of melting or hot moulding of metallic materials.
Hollow balls are the lightest among the sphere models to meet specific application needs. They are usually made of mainly high-strength metal alloys: brass, bronze or other special alloys. They offer good resistance to corrosion, pressure and temperatures.
The characteristic shape of hollow brass balls includes two or three holes that flow into a passing internal chamber. The dimensions can vary considerably and are determined by the size of the ball valve in which they are to be installed.
The production of through holes on the hollow brass balls serves to conduct the flow of fluid through the valve; for this reason the size and geometry of the latter are designed to minimise resistance to the passage of the fluid when the valve is completely open.
The surface of the hollow brass balls is precision machined to ensure an optimal seal when the valve is closed. The hollow brass balls are positioned against a sealing seat when the valve is in the closed position; it is a gasket that ensures the correct functioning of ball valves. The seal seat can be made of materials such as PTFE (polytetrafluoroethylene) or other elastomers, depending on the fluid and operating conditions.
The hollow spheres are specially designed to resist corrosion and erosion over time, ensuring reliable and prolonged operation of the valve. The seal is of medium intensity and the manufacturing tolerances are deliberately reduced to minimise any fluid leaks when the valve is closed.
